This trip invites you to discover a sultanate of striking landscapes, where soaring mountains, lush oases, golden dunes and wild coastlines create ever-changing scenery. Designed around nature and adventure, the itinerary takes you into the heart of Oman’s great outdoors, with hikes, swims in wadis, horse rides and kayaking.

Along the way, explore the dramatic landscapes of Jebel Shams and Jebel Akhdar, including the famous Balcony Walk overlooking the Grand Canyon of Arabia. Then head to the dunes of Wahiba Sands for an immersive desert experience, before continuing to the coast and Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve, renowned for sea turtle watching.

An active and refreshing itinerary designed to showcase Oman’s remarkable diversity, from mountains and desert to ocean, with time to enjoy experiences close to nature.

Day 1: GENEVA - oman

Meet and greet at the airport, followed by a transfer to your centrally located hotel.

• Muscat

Muscat, the capital of the Sultanate of Oman, lies between the waters of the Gulf of Oman and the arid mountains surrounding the city. It offers a pleasing balance of Omani heritage, contemporary architecture and natural scenery, while retaining a peaceful atmosphere.

Among its most iconic sights, Mutrah Corniche follows the waterfront and leads to the famous souk, where incense, fabrics, jewellery and handicrafts sit side by side. The old forts overlooking the bay are a reminder of the capital’s rich maritime past.

The city is also home to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, remarkable for its scale and exquisite architecture, including its imposing chandelier and immense carpet. With its beaches, historic neighbourhoods, traditional markets and mountain views, Muscat is an excellent introduction to Oman’s culture and landscapes.

Day 2: Muscat - Wakan - Misfah

• Wakan

Set off to discover the mountain village of Wakan, perched at nearly 2,000 metres above sea level. Explore its beautiful terraced gardens, set amid a mountainous landscape with stunning views over the surrounding valleys.

The day continues with a stroll through the oasis of Bilad Sayt, a village nestled among the mountains and surrounded by palm groves and cultivated fields. You then continue towards Misfah, another iconic village in Oman’s mountains.

• Misfah

You continue your exploration with a visit to Misfah, a village built into the mountainside in a remarkable natural setting. This traditional village offers a fascinating glimpse into rural Omani life and farming methods passed down through generations.

As you wander along narrow lanes lined with old stone houses, discover terraced gardens growing date palms, fruit trees and a variety of crops. They are irrigated by falajs, ingenious traditional channels that carry water through the plantations.

A walk through the village and its cultivated fields offers wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, while giving you a glimpse of the architecture, traditions and everyday life of this mountainous region of Oman.

Day 3: MISFAH - djebel SHAMS

Head towards Jebel Shams, whose name means “Mountain of the Sun”. Your route first takes you to the impressive Wadi Nakhr Gorge, carved into the rocky landscape of northern Oman.

Continue on to Jebel Shams, the highest point in the Sultanate of Oman, rising to around 3,000 metres above sea level. The region is especially famous for its spectacular Grand Canyon of Arabia, whose deep cliffs offer magnificent views over the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Lunch at a local restaurant, before setting off on a hike along part of the famous “Balcony Walk”. Clinging to the mountainside, this trail follows the canyon walls and offers impressive views of the gorge and the rocky landscapes of Jebel Shams.

Day 4: JEBEL SHAMS - NIZWA

• Jabreen

You begin the day by exploring Jabreen Castle, a remarkable 17th-century building and a true jewel of Omani heritage. Built at the behest of Imam Bil’arab bin Sultan, the castle once served a dual purpose as both a residence and a centre of learning.

As you explore, discover the building’s beautifully considered architecture, with magnificent decorated wooden ceilings, murals and Islamic calligraphy. Spread over several levels, it includes old study rooms, a library, reception rooms and numerous spaces arranged around courtyards.

From the castle’s towers and highest points, you can also enjoy lovely views of the palm groves and surrounding mountains. This visit offers a deeper understanding of Oman’s history and the importance placed on culture, the arts and the transmission of knowledge at that time.

• Oman Across Ages Museum

You continue your day with a visit to the Oman Across Ages Museum, around twenty minutes from Nizwa. Opened in 2023, this modern museum takes you on a journey through time, exploring the key milestones that have shaped the Sultanate of Oman, from its geological origins to its contemporary development.

Thanks to its immersive, interactive displays, the museum takes you through several million years of natural history and offers a deeper understanding of the country’s cultural, social and historical evolution over the centuries.

The building is also worth a visit for its striking contemporary architecture, whose lines draw inspiration from the contours of the Hajar Mountains. Blending seamlessly into its surroundings, the museum offers a modern and engaging introduction to Omani history and heritage.

• Nizwa

Continue on to Nizwa, the Sultanate’s former capital and one of Oman’s most emblematic historic cities. At the heart of the city stands its famous 17th-century fort, recognisable by its imposing circular tower. From the top, enjoy panoramic views over the old town, palm groves and surrounding mountains.

You also explore Nizwa’s traditional souk, renowned for its authentic atmosphere and many stalls selling silver jewellery, spices, pottery and local crafts. The city is also known for its Friday morning livestock market, a lively tradition that still brings together residents, livestock breeders and traders from the region.

Day 5: Nizwa - Jabal Akhdar

• Birkat Al Mouz

This morning, drive to Birkat Al Mouz, a traditional village at the foot of the Omani mountains. Discover a cluster of old mud-brick and stone houses, some now abandoned, as well as several watchtowers that evoke the region’s past.

The village is also known for its falaj, an ingenious ancient irrigation system that carries water to the crops and palm groves. Still in use today, this traditional know-how is part of Oman’s aflaj irrigation systems, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and reflects the remarkable water-management expertise developed over the centuries.

• Jabal Akdhar

You then continue your journey to Jebel Akhdar, whose name means “Green Mountain”. This mountain range stands out for its cooler climate and vegetation, creating a striking contrast with the arid landscapes typical of much of the Sultanate.

The region is especially known for its terraced farms, where pomegranates, apricots and roses grow, particularly around the village of Sayq. Take in spectacular views of the mountains and deep canyons as you explore the traditional villages of Sayq, Wadi Bani Habib and Al Ain, perched on the mountainsides.

Several trails also let you explore these mountain landscapes on foot and get a closer look at the local way of life and traditional farming.

Day 6: JABAL AKHDAR - WAHIBA SANDS

• Wadi Bani Khalid

Drive to Wadi Bani Khalid, one of Oman’s best-known oases. Nestled amid an impressive rocky landscape, the wadi reveals expansive natural pools of clear water in shades of turquoise and emerald, surrounded by cliffs and imposing rock formations.

Easily accessible, the site is perfect for making the most of its natural setting. You can swim in the wadi’s waters—be sure to wear suitable clothing—relax by the pools or explore the surrounding trails. For those keen to see more, continue towards Muqil, where you’ll find rock formations and a natural cave.

• Wahiba Sands

Continue on to Wahiba Sands, also known as the Sharqiya Desert, one of Oman’s most iconic desert regions. On arrival, take in the vast landscape of golden and orange dunes stretching as far as the eye can see.

Sculpted by the wind, some dunes can reach around a hundred metres in height, creating a particularly impressive landscape. This stop in the heart of the desert offers a true immersion in Oman’s vast open spaces, with silence, endless horizons and colours that change throughout the day.

Day 7: wahiba sands - ras al hadd

• Ras Al Jinz

Enjoy a free morning before setting off towards the coast and the village of Ras Al Hadd, at the easternmost tip of the Sultanate.

As night falls, head to Ras Al Jinz, about a 30-minute drive away, for an excursion to observe sea turtles with the utmost respect for their natural environment.

A designated nature reserve, Ras Al Jinz is one of Oman’s main nesting sites for green turtles. Every year, many turtles come ashore on its beaches to lay their eggs. Guided and carefully managed to avoid disturbing the animals, this nighttime excursion offers the chance to witness this remarkable natural phenomenon in a protected environment.

Day 8: ras al hadd - mascate

• Wadi Tiwi, Wadi Arbaeen and Wadi Dayqah

After a walk through Wadi Tiwi, continue on to Wadi Al Arbaeen, one of Oman’s most impressive natural landscapes. Surrounded by steep mountainsides and dotted with clear-water pools, the site is an ideal setting for a walk through the wadi, with the chance to enjoy a refreshing swim.

In the afternoon, head to Wadi Dayqah Dam, one of the Sultanate’s largest dams. Surrounded by mountains, its vast lake offers a peaceful setting to explore by kayak—a unique way to take in the scenery.

You then set off for Muscat, following the coast through landscapes of sea and mountains.

Day 9: DEPARTURE FROM OMAN

Free time, then private transfer to the airport for your return flight.
