I T I N E R A R Y

DAY 1: Geneva – Istanbul – Tbilisi

Your journey begins with a transfer from your region to Geneva Airport, where you will meet your Vos Voyages tour leader and the other participants.

On arrival in the Georgian capital, you will be met by your English-speaking guide
then transferred to your hotel.

Check in, dinner and overnight at the Museum Hotel ** (or similar) in Tbilisi. **

DAY 2: Tbilisi

Breakfast at the hotel.

The morning is at leisure, allowing you to recover from the previous day’s journey. Late in the morning, set off to explore TBILISI, a captivating capital where European and Eastern influences meet. Founded in the 5th century, it charms visitors with its surprising blend of historic architecture, cobbled streets, carved wooden balconies and contemporary buildings.

Discover the old town, dominated by Metekhi Church, before heading to the district of the famous sulphur baths, the historic heart of the city. Stroll through picturesque narrow streets lined with lively squares, traditional houses and ancient churches that bear witness to the capital’s rich past.

Lunch at a restaurant.

The afternoon continues with a visit to Sioni Cathedral followed by Anchiskhati Church, the oldest in Tbilisi. Enjoy some free time afterwards to soak up the atmosphere of the old town, have a coffee on a terrace or browse the local craft shops.

Return to the hotel.

Dinner and overnight at the Museum Hotel** (or similar) in Tbilisi.

DAY 3: David Gareja Desert - Signagi - Telavi

After breakfast, travel east towards the spectacular David Gareja Monastery, an extraordinary religious complex founded in the 6th century on the edge of the semi-desert landscapes near the Azerbaijani border. Partly carved into the rock, this spiritually significant site offers a striking contrast to the Tbilisi sights you saw the previous day.

Continue on to SIGNAGI, a charming little town perched in the heart of the Kakheti wine region. Protected by its city walls and overlooking the fertile Alazani Valley, it is often called the “city of love”.

Lunch with a local family, a chance to share a convivial moment over Georgian specialities and experience the legendary local hospitality. In the afternoon, visit a family estate and watch the traditional churchkhela being made, a famous treat prepared with walnuts and grape juice. A tasting offers the chance to savour this regional speciality.

At the end of the day, travel to TELAVI, the historic capital of Kakheti.

Share lunch with a local family and discover the culinary traditions of Kakheti, the birthplace of Georgian wine more than 8,000 years ago.

DAY 4: Telavi - Kvareli - Gremi - Tbilisi

After breakfast, spend the day exploring Kakheti, a region renowned for its vineyards, rolling landscapes and millennia-old winemaking traditions. First stop in Kvareli, where you will visit a winery that continues Georgia’s traditional winemaking methods. Discover the famous qvevri, large buried clay vessels listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, before enjoying a tasting of some of the region’s signature wines.

Continue to Gremi Fortress, former residence of the kings of Kakheti. Overlooking the Alazani Valley, this remarkable 16th-century complex offers magnificent views of the vineyards, with the Caucasus Mountains as a backdrop.

In the afternoon, return to TBILISI through the peaceful landscapes of eastern Georgia.

Discover a winemaking tradition dating back over 8,000 years, considered one of the oldest in the world.

DAY 5: Mtskheta - Ananuri - Stepantsminda

After breakfast, head to MTSKHETA, former capital of the Kingdom of Iberia and an important spiritual centre of Georgia. Discover Jvari Monastery, beautifully situated on a promontory overlooking the confluence of the Aragvi and Kura rivers. Then visit the majestic Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the country’s most important places of worship.

The journey then continues north along the spectacular Georgian Military Road, one of the most beautiful routes in the Caucasus. The landscape gradually becomes more mountainous, with verdant valleys, rushing streams and majestic peaks.

Lunch en route. Stop at Ananuri Fortress, beautifully preserved on the shores of Jinvali Lake, before continuing your climb into the mountains.

On arrival in STEPANTSMINDA, switch to a 4x4 vehicle for the journey to the famous Gergeti Trinity Monastery, perched at 2,170 metres above sea level with Mount Kazbek as its backdrop. This iconic site offers one of Georgia's most spectacular panoramas.

DAY 6: Stepantsminda – Ananuri – Gori – Uplistsikhe – Akhaltsikhe

After breakfast, leave the Greater Caucasus mountains behind and head for the gentler landscapes of central Georgia. The route, with several stops along the way, offers magnificent views and lets you fully enjoy this journey across the country. First stop in GORI, the birthplace of Joseph Stalin. You will see the outside of his museum and the modest house where he was born before continuing your journey

Lunch during the visits.

The afternoon is devoted to exploring UPLISTSIKHE, one of Georgia’s oldest archaeological sites. Known as the “City of God”, this fascinating cave town, carved into the rock from the 1st millennium BC, was once a major stop on the Silk Road. During the visit, explore its ancient dwellings, temples, rock-cut halls and ingenious network of tunnels, all testament to the civilisation that made Uplistsikhe an important religious, political and commercial centre.

IMPORTANT: The visit lasts around one to one and a half hours. There are a few steps and prepared walkways along the route; comfortable walking shoes are recommended to make the most of the site. As throughout the trip, the pace will be adapted to the group. At the end of the day, travel to AKHALTSIKHE, the historic capital of the Samtskhe-Javakheti region.

Step back in time as you explore the lanes and galleries of Uplistsikhe, a remarkable cave city that was once a major crossroads on the Silk Road.

DAY 7: Akhaltsikhe - Vardzia - Paravani Lake - Tbilisi

After breakfast, set off for one of the country’s most spectacular sites: VARDZIA.

Carved into the cliff in the 12th century during the reign of Queen Tamar, this impressive monastic city extends across several levels and contains a labyrinth of galleries, chapels, monastic cells and dwellings carved into the rock. Overlooking the Kura Valley, it remains one of the most remarkable testaments to Georgia’s Golden Age.

IMPORTANT: The visit lasts approximately two hours. A local shuttle takes you to the foot of the site. The route then includes a few steps and ancient tunnels. After exploring the magnificent rock-hewn church and its 12th-century frescoes, those who wish may take their time returning without completing the entire circuit.

In the afternoon, set off for TBILISI across the vast volcanic landscapes of the country's south. A stop at Lake Paravani, Georgia's largest lake, offers a welcome break amid unspoilt nature before you continue on to the capital.

Arrive in TBILISI in the late afternoon.

DAY 8: Tbilisi - Istanbul - Geneva

Depending on your flight schedule, transfer to Tbilisi Airport.

On arrival, collect your luggage before returning to your region under the same arrangements as for the outbound transfer.
