 South Africa Beach & Safari

New Resort | from July 2026

Next July, Club Med will open its very first resort in South Africa with the launch of Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari, nestled on the spectacular Dolphin Coast, north of Durban, in the province of KwaZulu-Natal.

This new all-inclusive resort offers a unique experience that combines two complementary worlds: a seaside holiday on the shores of the Indian Ocean, with unspoilt beaches and water sports, and an immersive experience in the heart of the South African savannah, within an 18,000-hectare private reserve, where guests can encounter the legendary Big Five.

The concept is clear: to combine the untamed beauty of the coastline with the excitement of a safari in a single destination, in a seamless and stress-free experience. A fresh approach to travel that blends nature, adventure and comfort, staying true to Club Med’s pioneering spirit.

The resort experience: where the Indian Ocean meets the South African way of life

A spectacular natural setting, combining beach and wilderness

Located on the Dolphin Coast, north of Durban, the future resort is situated on one of KwaZulu-Natal’s best-preserved stretches of coastline. This section of the South African coast is renowned for its unspoilt landscapes, where the Indian Ocean meets dense, rolling countryside, far from major urban areas.

On arrival, the landscape immediately stands out for its rugged, open character: long stretches of golden sand flanked by dunes, light that shifts throughout the day, and a clear horizon where the ocean dominates the landscape. The surroundings convey a rare sense of space, almost untouched, reinforced by the low density of buildings in the area.

Behind the coastline, nature quickly reclaims its territory. The landscape features vegetation typical of the subtropical region, comprising green hills, sparse forests and wild areas stretching inland. This transition between sea and bush creates a unique atmosphere, where two natural worlds coexist without a clear dividing line.

The climate also plays a key role in this experience. Mild and sunny for much of the year, it allows you to make the most of the outdoor spaces, whether for water sports, seaside walks or relaxing by the ocean. The light, which is often very intense, accentuates the contrasts between the deep blue of the water, the green of the vegetation and the warm tones of the sand.

This exceptional natural setting is not merely a backdrop: it shapes the entire resort experience. The architecture and living spaces are designed to open out fully onto the outdoors, maintaining a constant connection with the surroundings. Here, nature is not a backdrop, but a central feature of the stay, ever-present and changing with the tides, the wind and the light.

 A lifestyle resort, blending elegance with African influences

Designed as a next-generation resort, it combines accommodation, dining, leisure facilities and living spaces within a single integrated complex, right on the seafront on the Dolphin Coast.

The architecture is organised into several distinct areas, with a central resort hub housing the communal spaces (reception, restaurants, bars and main swimming pools), and accommodation spread across low-rise buildings to preserve the views and ensure the development blends into the landscape. The building volumes are deliberately kept to a minimum in order to respect the coastal environment and maintain a sense of openness towards the outside world.

The design is rooted in a contemporary aesthetic, featuring natural materials such as wood, stone and earthy tones, complemented by decorative touches inspired by South African craftsmanship. This influence is evident in certain textile patterns, graphic elements and pieces of furniture, which are incorporated throughout the communal areas and guest rooms.

The resort is designed to function as a continuous living space: the restaurants and bars are spread out to avoid crowding, and several swimming pools are located in different parts of the site to offer a variety of atmospheres (family-friendly, relaxed or livelier).

There will also be an Exclusive Collection area, offering distinctive accommodation and services, including more private spaces, a dedicated swimming pool and premium amenities, set apart from the rest of the resort but integrated within the same grounds.

The communal areas are designed to ensure smooth movement: footpaths, open spaces with greenery, outdoor terraces and direct links between the various activity hubs.

A varied and action-packed all-inclusive package

At the heart of the experience lies a promise: you’ll never have to choose between relaxation and activity. The resort, which is open all year round, will offer over twenty included activities, designed to suit all paces and preferences.

Highlights include:

  • A year-round resort featuring an Exclusive Collection area;
  • 32 hectares bordered by a vast, unspoilt natural beach;
  • Club Med’s first surf school (included);
  • Childcare available for children aged 4 months to 17 years;
  • 2 restaurants and 5 bars;
  • Located just 30 minutes from King Shaka International Airport and 45 minutes from Durban.

A variety that allows you to plan your days as you wish, alternating between lively activities and peaceful moments by the sea.

 An ideal destination for families

Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari is designed to seamlessly cater to the needs of children, teenagers and adults, with activities fully integrated into resort life.

The kids’ clubs cater for all age groups, from 4 months to 17 years, with dedicated areas and specialist staff. Younger children have access to facilities tailored to their needs (rest, play, early learning), whilst older children enjoy sporting, creative and social activities, with a progressive supervision approach that allows teenagers greater independence.

The resort features several family-friendly areas, including separate swimming pools and secure outdoor spaces where children can play in a supervised environment. This layout helps to limit crowding and allows different groups to use the facilities at the same time.

The accommodation offers layouts suitable for family stays, with connecting rooms or suites that can accommodate several people in the same space, whilst maintaining separate areas to ensure everyone’s comfort.

Finally, the programme of activities ensures a smooth balance between family time and personal time: some activities can be enjoyed together (sports, water sports, sightseeing), whilst others are organised separately, giving everyone the chance to enjoy their stay at their own pace.

Gastronomy and lifestyle

The dining options at Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari are spread across several complementary areas throughout the resort, designed to avoid overcrowding and offer a variety of atmospheres throughout the day.

The main restaurant operates as an international buffet, featuring a show-cooking station and a rotating selection of dishes inspired by both world cuisines and local South African specialities. The aim is to offer a flexible menu suitable for families as well as for more gourmet dining experiences, with fresh produce and dishes that change daily.

In addition, specialist restaurants offer a more varied culinary experience, with a more intimate atmosphere and more focused menus. These venues place greater emphasis on local identity, particularly through dishes inspired by South African culinary traditions and produce from the KwaZulu-Natal region.

The bars are spread throughout the resort, each with its own distinct atmosphere: the main bar is lively both during the day and in the evening, whilst there are quieter areas by the pool or overlooking the ocean. This layout allows guests to enjoy the resort at their own pace, without a single central hub.

The art of living is also based on the principle of complete freedom in the daily routine: flexible mealtimes, all-day service in certain areas, and no strict timetable, so as to accommodate guests’ activities, excursions and preferences.

Finally, local elements are gradually being incorporated into the dining experience, not only in the dishes but also in the overall atmosphere: regional produce, contemporary African influences and subtle cultural references enrich the experience without altering the resort’s international character.

Accommodation surrounded by nature

The accommodation at Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari is designed to blend into the coastal landscape of the Dolphin Coast, with low-rise buildings set amongst lush greenery to minimise visual impact and preserve the views.

The rooms are divided into several categories — standard, superior, deluxe and suites — with each category offering progressively greater space, a better location and enhanced amenities. All rooms open out onto the outdoors, featuring a private balcony or terrace from which guests can enjoy the climate and natural surroundings.

The accommodation has been designed to maximise the views: overlooking the Indian Ocean, the resort’s tropical gardens or the surrounding hills, depending on its location within the estate. This variety allows guests to tailor their experience to their preferences, choosing between a seaside setting and a more lush, green atmosphere.

Inside, the design is consistent with the resort as a whole: natural materials, a subtle and warm colour palette, and functional layouts that make the most of natural light. The spaces are designed to accommodate couples, families or small groups, with flexible options such as connecting rooms.

Some of the higher-tier categories offer additional services and more exclusive locations within the site, enhancing the sense of privacy whilst remaining an integral part of the resort as a whole.

The overarching aim of the accommodation is to maintain a constant connection with the outside world: nature is not only visible from the rooms, but becomes a central part of the daily experience, from sunrise to sunset.

Well-being and unwinding

Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari offers a wellness programme designed to be an integral part of the holiday experience, with facilities located both in dedicated areas and in spaces that are more open to the natural surroundings.

The spa is at the heart of this experience, featuring treatment rooms, relaxation areas and facilities dedicated to massages and body treatments. The design prioritises a calm atmosphere, with visitor flow organised separately from the resort’s busier areas to ensure a relaxing environment.

There are also relaxation areas within the resort: shaded spots, lounge areas and quieter swimming pools allow guests to step away from the hustle and bustle of the main activities. This layout encourages a balanced use of the resort, alternating between active moments and periods of rest.

Sports facilities also play a part in this focus on well-being, offering activities at various levels and intensities, ranging from gentle exercise to more dynamic sports. The idea is to allow people to tailor the pace of their day to suit their individual preferences.

Finally, the immediate proximity to nature enhances this sense of disconnection: the setting overlooking the ocean, the constant light and the unobstructed views create an environment that is ideal for taking a break from everyday life. Well-being depends not only on the facilities, but also on the space, the relative tranquillity of the site and the direct connection with the natural elements.

The Club Med experience continues... in the heart of Zululand

For the first time, Club Med will be offering its guests the chance to explore South Africa’s flora and fauna at the heart of Mpilo Safari Lodge, situated within an 18,000-hectare private nature reserve exclusively reserved for Club Med guests aged 4 and over. Located a 45-minute flight from the Resort – or a 4½-hour drive – this reserve covers an exceptional area, among the largest in KwaZulu-Natal, guaranteeing a rare and unspoilt immersion in the landscapes of Zululand. Here, the savannah is more undulating, lush and sun-drenched than one might imagine, offering a contrasting landscape that is emblematic of this region.

Every day, guided safaris will take you in search of the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and African buffalo) in their natural habitat, accompanied by experienced rangers. This is a rare opportunity: not all South African reserves are home to all five species, which makes this experience all the more exceptional. A safari specially tailored for families with young children will also be available, so that everyone can fully experience the magic of the bush. The lodge will offer 75 premium tents designed to accommodate both couples and families, with all the comforts of a Club Med experience: a panoramic view, a swimming pool for everyone and a second one located in the adult lounge area, a restaurant, a supervised children’s area with water games, as well as play areas designed for families. This unique expedition can be arranged à la carte* with your Club Med advisor, either before or after your beach holiday. It will allow you to extend your immersion in South African nature. A minimum stay of five nights at Club Med South Africa Beach & Safari is required to take part.
